Not that it would have been any less terrible at any other time, but there’s something symbolic and tragic that it is on Veganuary of all occasions, that the efforts to veganise the world received such a hard blow.
The Trump administration, under the leadership of US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his “Make America Healthy Again” movement, released new dietary guidelines and with them, an inverted food pyramid that elevates full-fat dairy and animal-based proteins in the widest part at the top, while whole grains are pushed to the base.
The biggest deviation is a new prioritization of animal sources within the protein food group, instead of a plant-forward pattern.

Another major departure from earlier guidance involves dairy and fat consumption. For decades, Americans were advised to choose low-fat or fat-free dairy products to reduce saturated fat intake. The new guidelines now recommend three servings of full-fat dairy per day.
The Dietary Guidelines, issued jointly by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA), form the basis for federal nutrition programs, including school meals for nearly 30 million children, as well as public health advice and disease prevention strategies nationwide.
Kennedy has also called the US Dietary Guidelines for Americans “antiquated” and said he’s pushing Head Start programs, which provide early childhood education and other services to children and families, to switch from low-fat to full-fat dairy products, including whole milk.
That means that hundreds of millions of children are going to be indoctrinated with animal based consumption from a very early age and during adolescence.

Animal rights organizations all over the world work so hard for so long to reduce animal consumption, and one wrong person, in the wrong place, can erase so much of the little progress the animal liberation movement has made, with one decision.

When will you understand that to stop all suffering, what is needed is the very right people in the very right place? There is no other way. Not to understand this is to continue to allow people with a lot of power to destroy everything we have tried to build for years, and not with great success. This is our world. This is animals’ world. The sooner you’ll get it, the sooner the suffering stops.
