How can they miss it in rodeo shows? Even though the violence is very evident, to grownups and children alike, humans see rodeos as family entertainment. Children might not see the electric prods, sharp sticks and the flank strap that is pulled tightly around the animals’ groins, but they do see a bunch of people slamming a little calf to the ground after they chased him around in a small ring. Everybody can understand that the calf suffers extreme pain when he is being roped while he runs in panic as fast as he can and suddenly being aggressively slammed to the ground.
Humans don’t see rodeos as torture, not because of a good disguise, but because they are entertained from the violence and the domination exhibition. This
shearing show and of course bullfights, circuses and rodeos are all some sort of a celebration of humans’ victory over other species, a symbolic display of their tyranny.
Enjoying such brutal and violent shows is part of humans’ nature.
You can try to convince people not to participate, you can try to promote legislation against those cruel acts, you can demonstrate, you can even liberate a few animals, but you can’t change the fact that this is a part of the human race.
