About a year ago I saw somewhere that an annual veggie hotdog eating contest is being held at Austin Texas. After a little googling it appeared that it was the second year that such an event was organized and that Washington followed Austin making their own tofu sausages stuffing. At first I felt it was mostly an imitative, repulsive and derisive effort to show that vegans can have fun too. The thought that many vegans who I expect much more of, enjoy a contest of poking as many meatless hotdogs buns and wieners as possible in twelve minutes, was quite disappointing. After a while it came to my mind how desperate and hopeless activists must be to lay their hopes on these embarrassing events. Activists understand that they can’t change so they change themselves?!
Or they really enjoy it? I don’t know what is worse…
That was extremely depressing. And now after I saw your vegan suffer article my depression changed into rage. Mistakenly I saw it as a cruelty free contest and now it is not only a strategic dispute I have with the organizers, participants and supporters now it’s an ethical dispute as well.

just watched the excellently made STAMP COLLECTION slideshow and I think it is an exquisite and accurate simile wrapped in a strong but touching package.
Definitely one of the best.

I used to think it hold a big promise in abuse and suffer reduction, I even thought that it might help reduce speciesism by breaking the link between animals and food, however today I’m much more skeptical. 
There is a link between animals and food because man insists on keeping it, enjoys preserving and commemorating his domination over the rest of the species.

Takin, your expectation for rational decision making from humans is very strange. Have you been to a supermarket lately? 90% of the products are completely junk, and 90% of what is left are fruits and vegetables which are principally great but since the super versions are genetically modified and loaded with chemicals, the whole supermarket turns to the world’s tidy and neat waste dump.

Getting back to the slideshow one sperm cell, most people really examine the world according to their personal experiences only, some will add the immediate vicinity and some will even "go far” to the state of the country they live in, emphasizing the economic situation. A much smaller group consider humanity as whole and the smallest group by far will take under consideration all the sentient creatures in the world with no difference what so ever. And when you think all of them over there are much less doubts about the idea. This is what this slideshow is about. The first time I watched it I didn’t understand why it is all about humans until I understood it was just a spring board to say that if this is how horrible the world is for humans, how horrible it is for animals. It demonstrates the simplest equation that accurately summarizes the only one solution idea, statistically the world is a place that most of the creatures suffer most of the time and hence there should be no question or hesitations about the annihilation idea.

hi,
I discovered this website two months ago and i am pleased to see that there is a forum now.
 
There are plenty of brilliant ideas in this website, but the one that gave me the strongest intellectual quiver is the slideshow one sperm cell. Such a powerful indictment against life, everyone must see.
