"Nature" is, or rather has become, a relative definition.

As far as contemporary human society is concerned, nature no longer has anything to do with ecological equilibrium; it is no longer a force unto itself, but merely an extension of humanities ever present and omnipotent whim.

Primates are tortured in a vivisection lab, cows are raped in milking sheds, pigs are boiled alive in factory farms, dogs are chained up punchbags, horses are whipped around the racetrack...

Those examples now reveal the contemporary definition of "nature". That is now the natural homes for those creatures...Not in the savannah's and forests...but in slave pits and torture chambers surrounded by barbed wire and armed human beings.

To cite another example; a news report of a recent traffic accident involving a truck filled with captive cows was placed into a news category entitled "The Amazing World of Animals".

Well, let us take a look at "The Amazing World of Animals", let us observe the new order of "Nature" on Earth; How trucks filled with cows, for example, have now become a "natural" everyday living experience for all species on earth.

This world is so fucked up that even when it comes to endangered species and all the more so- a great ape like an Orangutan, an animal you would expect to be long ago protected from human atrocities, stories like that keep appearing.
But this happens even though public opinion is generally sympathetic (selfish and egocentric as humans are, they don’t wish an Orangutan to be shot 62 times). But it is incontrollable, it doesn’t seem possible to stop the next crime, even though how very easy it is to relate to that story. First of all he's a primate, he's got a name and a face and he lived in nature where he was caught to be traded for illegally (and people like to stick to the law) then he was rescued by a local conservation group and released back to nature, only to be caught again by local villagers who severely abused him including shooting him 62 times. This story got everything in it to burn down this village but what most people would do is comment furiously on the story or write a status about how they hope whoever did this is caught and rote in jail. After they’ll find out the perpetrators only got 6 months and would probably actually serve half the time, they would cry it's an outrage and that they should’ve got life! but not going to do anything else about this or any other abuse story, not even the one that's being portrayed in their own refrigerator.
   
If you think the argument that only for Leuser this world should be destroyed is far too radical, how about the argument that there are a lot like him which you don’t know about, not to mention billions of creatures of less attractive kinds- creatures like Boris the bull whose story was given on the thread Comments and Quotes. People of the best humanity got to offer rescued Boris from the hell he was living in and despite all of their tremendous and touching efforts they couldn’t help him and he died as consequence of the horrible life he had. 
People read such stories, get furious, emotional and full of rage- but do nothing, not about Leuser, not about boris, and not about anyone else. And the little who do are a drop in the ocean. That's really depressing.

Leuser’s  story fits perfectly with sentimental ecologists who lack any based and valid moral philosophy. The story makes them sad and angry and is a reminder that there are bad people in the world. But behold… there is a good end to that story! In the end nature wins as Leuser becomes a father to twins. For them it is a victory story. Even 62 bullets couldn’t stop Leuser from reproducing.

But Leuser’s story doesn’t end well but with two more orangutans with a probable similar fate. The humans who did it are already free and there are many others like them out there. The ape trade didn’t stop and definitely not their systematical habitat destruction which is done for palm oil plantations. 

If that is the fate of a lawfully protected primate as the orangutan, how can we expect that something would ever change in the lives of more than 50 billion chickens who are, for most humans, no more than vessels of 2 kilos of meat.

As for the truck "accident" message…
Most people probably say, these cows are anyway on the way to the slaughterhouse, so what difference does it make...

Many people probably just laugh and maybe say wow! Holy cow! And the video would become another viral entertainment

Many people probably say that accidents happen, it is a shame but that’s part of life. What are the options? How else would the cows reach the slaughterhouse?

Some people probably say poor cows. Isn’t there another way to tie them inside the trucks or take care of these roads?

Much less people probably say that transportation is terrible. I have once seen animals being transported in a huge truck and it was horrible! The transportation conditions must be improved and much more responsible drivers must be hired for that job. Ones who can remember it is not vegetables they are carrying

Much much less people probably say that transportation is a sore evil and we all must eat only local food which is also healthier and better for the planet.

Just a tiny fraction of people probably say that the problem is not with the roads nor the irresponsible drivers or the transportation conditions and not even with the concept of transportation itself but with the concept of cows who are nothing but meat eaters’ property and it is for them which the transportation is done and so they are the problem. After all, trucks which don’t flip over end up in the slaughterhouse.

And there is you, whom we hope understand that the problem is everywhere, in every moment, in every scene on this sufferingfull planet.
There are so many suffering elements in these 30 seconds, from the photographing car, to the road, the buildings, the street signs, the paint in the street signs, the traffic lights, the electricity operating them, the electricity stands electrifying birds, the restaurant on the left, the lampposts disturbing night animals, the electricity operating them and etc. everything has a price. The flipping over is an accident, but the rest is not. The problem in our world is everything.

And as for the implied perception of nature as sacred and morally ideal presented in the first message, the following is taken from our article about nature’s true nature…


The history of life on this planet has been written with pain and suffering.
We mustn’t accept suffering just because it happens in the forest or the savanna, and to nonhuman animals by other nonhuman animals. Suffering is bad when it is considered natural just as much as when it’s considered artificial. All suffering should be stopped, it doesn’t matter how we define it and where it happens.   

“Natural suffering” doesn’t hurt less than “artificial suffering”. Suffering is wrong and should be stopped even if it occurs in “nature”. Savanna, forest, desert, battery cage or dairy farm, for the sufferers the location is meaningless. Taxonomy and Geography are not relevant when it comes to suffering.

The species of the suffering causer and of the sufferer are meaningless too. Why suffering that humans cause to nonhumans is considered unnecessary or artificial? Is it because it is taken place on concrete and not on bare ground? When orcas are playing volleyball with a seal, is it natural because it happens in the ocean and because it’s nonhumans who hurt other nonhumans?

Violence, rape and exploitation are routine in what humans call nature. Are they o.k because they are done to nonhuman animals by nonhuman animals?
Do you think that a female sea lion feels relieved that the human narrator of the National Geographic TV show says that rape among sea lions is common? Does she care who rapes her? Does she care why she is being raped? Does she care that humans call it natural? She doesn’t. And if she doesn’t you shouldn’t either. She just wants it to stop.
And you should help her.

For many animal rights activists nature represents perfection, something ideal from which we should learn, or something spiritual that we should worship, something that ought to be preserved and never criticized.
