Discussions about specific materials / Animals Time - Third Part
« on: March 12, 2020, 09:42:35 AM »
Many activists compare animals’ institutionalized exploitation with slavery. They use it as a rhetorical tool, trying to convince the public that just as discrimination based on skin color is arbitrary and wrong so is discrimination based on species, and they use it as an inspiration source arguing that just as enslavement based on skin color discrimination was ended, exploitation based on species discrimination can also end. But this comparison is utterly false and for several reasons.

Discussions about specific materials / Animals Time - Second Part
« on: February 23, 2020, 07:35:56 AM »
The belief that "this is animals’ time", probably unconsciously, relies on an inherently religious telos, whose secular form is manifested in the enlightenment narrative and the notion of progress, in which ‘the good’ or ‘the truth’ inevitably triumphs in the end, and rationality will inevitably triumph over irrationality if given enough time. The problem with this telos is that it is theoretically unprovable and practically entirely baseless. There is no guaranty that 'the good' will overcome. There is nothing to support this notion other than the desperate need to believe in it.

Discussions about specific materials / Animals' Time
« on: February 02, 2020, 05:50:27 AM »
In the former post we have argued that despite some specific relative successes, some optimistic prospects, and mostly despite the “we’re winning!” rhetoric common among many activists, we are still very very far from wining. Despite the vegan hype and the occasional launch of new plant based products, global consumption of meat is still on the rise. So not only that we are not "winning", it is still the case that each year more animals are being exploited in severer ways.
In this post we argue that not only that we are not winning, there is no reason to believe that we would ever win simply because we are right.

Despite the significant increase in plant based food, 2019 wasn’t as good for the animals as activists from the “we’re winning!” camp present it. In 2019, just as in any other year, and despite the rise in veganism awareness, animal consumption still increased.
We are still very very far from wining.

Discussions about specific materials / Gadhimai Festival
« on: December 04, 2019, 10:46:44 AM »
Despite what was previously thought by many activists to be the end of the gruesome centuries-old slaughter Nepalese ritual called Gadhimai, as religious authorities had announced that it should, and after the Supreme Court of Nepal has reached a verdict in favor of ending it, yesterday Hindu worshippers have slaughtered thousands of buffalos as part of this religious slaughter ritual.

Discussions about specific materials / World Vegan Day
« on: November 01, 2019, 02:25:01 AM »
Tomorrow is World Vegan Day. This year’s events are expected to be particularly cheerful, because optimism among the vegan community is probably stronger than ever before. One of the main reasons for that is the variety and availability of vegan products, especially ones who try to directly substitute animal derived product and do so very successfully. Never before were there so many plant based options which look, cook, sizzle, and satisfy like animals’ flesh.
However, most humans are still choosing the animal based options.

Discussions about specific materials / World Farm Animals Day
« on: October 02, 2019, 09:59:49 AM »
For the World Farm Animals Day held today, a post about the second prison these animals are forced to live in, their own deformed bodies. Bodies who have become like an alien machine, an enemy from inside, designed by the exploiters and working against the animals’ own interests

The US government is planning to set new slaughter regulations and to reduce the number of inspectors in slaughterhouses. A move which will make murdering animals even worse than it already is.

Discussions about specific materials / The Harmfulness of Meat
« on: August 07, 2019, 01:39:22 AM »
As tempting as using the health argument may seem, given the unequivocal data about the harms involved with meat consumption, this move might be harmful to animals, both on the long and short term.

The European Union and the South American Mercosur trading block (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) have reached agreement on a new free-trade deal. The trade agreement paves the way for a
significant increase of imports of cheaper cows flesh for the 500 million consumers EU market.

Discussions about specific materials / Suuny Abuse
« on: June 20, 2019, 06:56:16 AM »
Tomorrow is the first official day of the summer in the northern hemisphere.
Humans find every reason for a celebration, and every celebration is a reason to abuse animals.

The world record for deepest submarine dive ever was broken. During the 4 hours dive, the explorer spotted a plastic bag and candy wrappers on the seafloor of the deepest place on earth.
This achievement of reaching the deepest place on earth, which humans rather see as how far they can reach as a species, is actually a symbol of how deep their destructive effect reaches.

Discussions about specific materials / Skyscrapers
« on: April 08, 2019, 02:37:25 AM »
Yesterday the guardian published an article regarding a new repot which ranks the deadliest cities in the US for birds. Up to one billion birds die in glass collisions every year in the US alone. Some birds are distracted by the buildings’ bright lights at night, and others are confused by their clear, reflective glass during the day.
Skyscrapers are to birds, what cars are for numerous land animals – assassin tools.

Discussions about specific materials / The Fur Industry Comeback
« on: March 20, 2019, 08:05:34 AM »
For the last official day of the winter, a post about the fur industry and its comeback over the last two decades, after the animal rights community was sure that at least this sick industry is history.

The final part of the series of posts regarding Why We Love Dogs Eat Pigs and Wear Cows An Introduction to Carnism is respectively about the final chapter of the book, which suggests that humans must fight Carnism by bearing witness to the world atrocities, seriously arguing that with all the ugliness, there is also great beauty and potential in this world.
